Lanternward
About Lanternward
Lanternward invites players to illuminate the dark streets of a city called Veldrenmar by strategically placing lanterns. Each lantern lights up its entire row and column until blocked by a rooftop, while rooftops with numbers indicate how many lanterns must be adjacent to them. The challenge is to ensure that the entire grid is lit without any lanterns casting light on one another. This puzzle belongs to the Akari, or "Light Up," logic puzzle family, known for requiring pure deduction rather than guessing.
With 300 carefully designed puzzles varying in size from 6×6 to 14×14 grids, players explore ten different city districts before entering an Endless Night mode for continuous play. Lanternward presents difficulty levels based on the reasoning needed to solve the puzzles, encouraging players to develop their logical thinking skills. Each puzzle has a unique solution, and the game rewards efficient solving with a star rating linked to completion time, rather than imposing any strict countdown.
The browser-based version includes a daily puzzle to provide fresh challenges regularly, alongside accessibility options like a color-blind palette. If players find themselves stuck, subtle aids such as hints that place one correct lantern or marks indicating mistakes are available, albeit at the cost of a star rating. Progress is saved locally to allow easy continuation across sessions.
Lanternward’s quiet, thoughtful gameplay fits well within cozy, brain-training puzzle genres. Its straightforward mechanics and the absence of ads make it a relaxing yet engaging way to practice logical deduction within a calming, minimal interface.
